For some time I balked at the idea of paying a crew to clean my home. I had read “Nickel and Dimed”, which chronicled the low wages/mistreatment/chronic pain suffered by the misnamed “Merry Maids,” and I figured WTF?…it doesn’t take that much time to clean the freaking bathroom and kitchen. While I still believe in all of these sentiments, working with Natural Home Cleaning Professionals has altered my perspective. First, they are a worker-owned cooperative, which assures their employees of a living wage. Second, they only use all-natural, biodegradable cleaning products, which means that no one, including me, is subjected to daily doses of cancer-causing toxins. Finally, they always use a two-person crew, which means the work is shared, so less bodily wear and tear. I like that they always send the same crew, and I love coming home twice a month to a sparkling apartment that smells like peppermint, rather than Pine Sol. NHC came today to do a deep cleaning before starting bi-weekly service. They showed up an hour and a half early, which, actually, wasn’t good because I still had stuff to pick up. Two ladies worked seven hours cleaning pretty much every surface in the house. Honestly, I’m not sure this house has ever been this clean. What a joy! The cleaners were a little sketchy on English, but I’ve never had one who wasn’t. Still, they were friendly, thorough, and, if they can keep this up, I’ll be a customer for a long time. My bi-weekly charge is $115, for a 1300 square foot bath and a half home. That’s a little higher than I’ve paid in the past, but the touchy-feely of a worker-owned business and the non-toxic supplies (cleaner than my toxins wrought) make it worth the extra $20. In a down economy, with everyone saving and no one spending, which is, in itself, a recipe for disaster, treat yourself to this. Its green. After our horrible experience with Greenway it took a couple of weeks to convince the hubby it was worth trying again. Unlike the last time, I took the time to read Yelp and found Natural Home Cleaning. The slew of great reviews helped convince hubby to give it one more try. They just left and I just keep walking around the house saying ‘wow’. They spent as much time as the previous cleaners but this time the place is spotless. The gals doing the cleaning were also warmer and easier to be around. The kicker is NHC cost significantly LESS than the folks from Greenway that spent all their time throwing things away and making a mess.
They also brought plenty of their own cleaning products (unlike the last crew) and they were indeed green products. I get migraines from a lot of cleaning products (one reason I suck at housecleaning) and I’m having no reaction at all to the products used by NHC. Easy to comment on the ladies at Natural Home Cleaning, some of the most very thorough house cleaning I’ve had in the area, and that includes seeing my clients in Downtown Oakland, Montclair, Piedmont and Grand Lake go through a myriad of other bad companies. Here are the basics:
* Very courteous and helpful staff on the phone,
* Worked around my schedule (in fact, had a cancellation at a time they had apparently noted would work better for me, and called me to ask if I’d like that slot!),
* Eco friendly products – nothing but the best
* Competitive prices
* Very friendly and trustworthy cleaning crew — I’m not usually a fan of not being there when the house cleaners are going at it, but these ladies are just honest cleaning machines.
